AudRey

Concept

AudRey is a garment that analyzes Instagram accounts to reveal the wearer’s digital “aura.” AudRey combines augmented reality and 3D textile printing technology, visualizing a future where the virtual and tangible worlds intersect in high-tech fashion.

A custom developed an augmented reality app, which simultaneously analyzes the wearer’s own Instagram feed, as well as detect the patterns on the garment to reveal a virtual pattern. When people hold a mobile device in front of the garment, they will see a virtual texture emanate from the garment itself. Colors, comments and likes are the raw dataset the app pulls out from Instagram API, and then used to generate 3D particles to form a digital “aura”.

The fabric of the garment is designed from neoprene, and the seams are fastened by custom 3D printed fasteners. The design of the pattern icons on the garment reflects the digital era we are living in. The icons are cut out with reflective vinyl, then heat transferred onto the base garment.

Inspired by the emerging technology happening with Augmented Reality and 3D printed textiles right now, and this project is an experiment in visualizing a future where the virtual and tangible worlds intersect in high-tech fashion.
